Setting up the Burner System

Summary of the procedure
1. Check that the drain trap is filled with water.
2. Install the correct burner head for the type of flame that you intend to use – air-acetylene (10 cm) or
nitrous oxide-acetylene (5 cm). See procedures on how to install burner head in the Maintenance
chapter.
3. If you want to use an impact bead or spacer on the nebulizer, make sure that it is correctly installed.
4. If you intend to aspirate organic solvents, use a yellow color drain tube that is designed for organic
solvents.
5. Check the burner height. Make sure the burner head is balanced at both ends and the burner head is
also parallel to the light beam. See Adjusting Burner Height later in this chapter.
6. Perform the safety checks.
7. Ignite the flame.
NOTE
: Correct procedures for extinguishing the flame are described later in this chapter.
