General Maintenance Checklist

The following checklist describes general maintenance procedures.
For safety reasons, and to avoid contaminating new samples, you should ensure that the work area
is kept absolutely clean. This is especially important when working with toxic substances and
when measuring trace amounts of any elements.
Clean up spills immediately, using a spill clean-up kit approved by your organization.
In accordance with safe laboratory practices, spilled material
should be cleaned up and disposed of properly, taking into
consideration the following:
WARNING
9-4
location and size of the spill;
chemical and physical properties of the material;
hazardous properties of the material; and
types of personal protective equipment that might be
needed.
