Operation of the Instrument
Align the lamp
NOTE: For lamp optimum performance, warm HCLs for 5-10 minutes and 30 minutes for EDLs. Repeat the lamp
setup procedure.
Coded single element Lumina lamp
1. Start up the spectrometer, but do not ignite the flame.
2. Lamps Installed are automatically shown in the energy display box on the Lamp page. The element
entry field box automatically shows the element installed.
3. Touch the Setup Instrument button on the Lamp page of the touch screen. The recommended
parameters for that element are automatically set up.
The system automatically switches the lamp on, sets up the optical path (prism and grating),
sets and peaks the wavelength, sets the slit, and performs an Automatic Gain Control (AGC)
and Automatic Intensity Control (AIC).
4. Turn the two alignment controls alternately and in small increments while watching the AA bar
graph and the numerical energy display. Align the lamp to obtain maximum energy.
Coded single multi-element Lumina lamp
1. Start up the spectrometer, but do not ignite the flame.
2. Lamps Installed are automatically shown in the energy field box on the Lamp page. The element
entry field box automatically shows the element installed.
3. Touch the Element entry field box on the Lamp page to display the Select Element dialog. You
select the desired analyte element from the list in the dialog.
4. Touch the OK button and the recommended parameters for that element are automatically set up.
5. Turn the two alignment controls alternately and in small increments while watching the AA bar
graph and the numerical energy display. Align the lamp to obtain maximum energy.
Uncoded single element Intensitron lamp
1. Start up the spectrometer, but do not ignite the flame.
2. Touch the Install Lamps button on the Lamp page of the touch screen. The Install Lamps dialog is
displayed.
3. Touch the Element entry field box on the Install Lamps dialog to display the Element dialog. Select
the desired element.
4. Select the proper lamp type, EDL or HCL.
