Flame/Burner Troubleshooting

Flame does not
ignite

Possible Cause of Problem
The interlocks may not be satisfied
(for one or more of the possible
reasons listed below).
Fuel or oxidant may not be on or at the
proper pressures.
The proper burner head may not be
installed or fully seated. The 5-cm

O burner head must be used for all

nitrous oxide-acetylene analyses.

The drain interlock may not be
connected.
The level of liquid in the drain vessel
may be too low.
The level of liquid in the drain vessel
may be too high.
The fuel/oxidant flow stopped after 15
seconds.
The nebulizer interlock may not be
satisfied.
Check and/or Remedy
Check the interlocks. Refer to
the possible causes listed
below.
Check fuel and oxidant. Check
that the pressure is maintained
during the ignition cycle.
Check to make sure the correct
burner head is installed, fully
seated and secured.
Make sure the drain interlock
connection has been made.
Pour about 200-300 mL of
deionized water into the neck
of the burner or directly into
the top of the drain hose.
Empty the drain vessel.
Try igniting the flame again.
Check that the nebulizer is
properly installed with the side-
arm locked in place.
