Emergency Shutdown

If a situation arises where you have to shut down the system quickly and you do not have time to
carry out the correct procedure, you can use the procedure described below.
NOTE: This procedure is for use in an emergency only. Do not use it as a routine shutdown procedure.
1. Press the Emergency Red button located on the upper left hand side of the instrument.
2. When flame is extinguished, shut off gases at source and bleed.
3.
Switch off the spectrometer at the operational on/off switch on the front panel.
4. If you were previously running concentrated salt solutions, organic solvents, or
solutions containing cyanide, copper, silver, or mercury proceed as follows to shut
down the system properly. Wait until the instrument cools down, then proceed as
follows:
Remove the burner head.
Pour a large quantity of deionized water slowly through the neck of the burner chamber
to thoroughly flush the chamber and the drain system.
Check the burner head.
If there are deposits along the slot, clean the burner head.
Reinstall the burner head.
