Technical manual
The phantom is a cylinder (diameter = height = 160 mm) made of PMMA.
Holes have been drilled into the phantom, parallel to the axis of the cylinder.
Inside these holes a dose meter can be inserted. Holes that are not being
used for measurement are filled with rods made of the same material.
Values are obtained using a dosimeter manufactured by Radcal Corporation
(Model 2020 C). Values are presented in milligray (mGy) unless otherwise
noted. The values are normalised to CTDI
The dose measurement process is as follows. First the CT conditions of
operation of the system are set. These conditions of operation include the
parameters given in the following
Range of possible values
1 - 11 mA
60 - 120 kV
Width: 50 mm, 100 mm, 130 mm, 230 mm
Height: 55 mm, 90 mm, 100 mm, 130 mm, 160 mm, 260 mm
Child collimation: on / off

After the conditions of operation have been set, the dose meter is placed
inside the phantom, the dose meter display is reset and exposure is
commenced. Dose meter display is recorded after the exposure.
Default CT scanner conditions of operation are:
Tube voltage: 120 kV
Tube current: 8 mA
Beam collimation: width = 100 mm, height = 90 mm, child patient = off
Exposure mode: Normal
CTDI
= 17.72 mGy
