CHAPTER 38    License Key
The Floating License allows you to 'pay as you grow' by eliminating the need to manually purchase
additional SBC licenses each time your capacity requirements increase. You initially purchase a
Floating License based on your estimated SBC capacity requirements. If you later experience
business growth and your devices use more SBC resources than specified by the Floating License,
you are billed for the additional resources.
The Floating License is managed by AudioCodes OVOC, which defines the devices using the
Floating License. These devices, once connected to OVOC, are "open" to use any capacity.
However, capacity is limited by the device's inherent maximum capacity support and by an optional
user-defined limit called Allocation Profile (discussed later in this section), which specifies the
capacity for each SBC license type.
The devices report their SBC resource consumption of each SBC license type to OVOC at fixed
intervals (typically, every five minutes). OVOC sends a report to AudioCodes Cloud License
Manager every 12 hours with all the SBC resource usage in the last 12 hours by the devices
participating in the Floating License. AudioCodes analyzes the resource consumption reports in the
Cloud License Manager on a monthly basis to check if your licensed capacity specified by the
Floating License has been exceeded. If the licensed capacity has been exceeded, AudioCodes
sends you a report detailing the excess capacity and requests that you purchase additional SBC
capacity for your Floating License. For more information on how this is calculated and for ordering
the Floating License, refer to the AudioCodes Fixed Pool and Floating Licenses document. To view
the Floating License report (SBC resource consumption) that the device sends OVOC, see
Floating License Reports
Connection between the SBC devices and OVOC is established over SNMP while functionality of
the Floating License service is managed over TCP/HTTPS REST.
When you enable and configure the device for the Floating License mode, the License Key page
