mode are enabled. Thus, this mode provides an entry medium for texts that are
interpreted and calculated as arithmetic expressions.
The text entry is recommended for more complex expressions as the expres‐
sion can be completely seen and checked before the calculation. Re-calcula‐
tions as they are often necessary in the classic mode can mostly be omitted.
The text entry is particularly suitable for an operation without mouse. The text
mode is moreover advantageous in recurring expressions with changing num‐
bers. For this purpose, the last expression should be copied into the display
using the clipboard and the new operands should then be entered by editing.
The text entry can be recognized from the status display "TEXT".
The "Hybrid" operating mode combines the classic and the text entry mode.
After calculation of a result and after pressing the delete key "C", it is decided
by means of the following operating step in which form - classic or text entry -
the following calculation will be performed. If the entry focus is set to the display
field and entries are made there, the text entry mode is activated. If, however,
operating keys are actuated or shortcuts are used while the entry focus is not
on the display, this behavior will activate the classic operation by means of keys.
The hybrid mode spares the explicit switching between the modes. It can be
recognized from the status display "HYBR".
Performing a Calculation
Numbers are entered in the following way:
Enter the numbers and the decimal separator in the order from left to right.
A leading zero in front of the decimal separator does not have to be en‐
tered.
For the numerical entry, the numbers <0> to <9> are available as short‐
cuts. The decimal separator can be entered using the "point" or "com‐
ma" key. You can also use the numeric keypad if the <Num> key has been
pressed in advance.
A negative sign can only be entered if the display does not equal zero. For
the change of sign, you can use the "+/-" key and/or the shortcut <F9>.
Changeover from the floating point representation (e.g. the decimal point
separates the fraction from the integer) to the exponential representation
(mantissa followed by the exponent of the power of ten) by operation is
not intended. An operand is always entered in the floating point represen‐
tation. Calculation results with very large and very small amounts can be
shown in exponential notation (x×10
Simple calculations in the basic arithmetic operations are performed as follows:
1.
Enter the first operand as described.
2.
Click on "+" in order to add, on "-" in order to subtract, on "×" in order to
multiply and on "÷" in order to divide.
The specified operators can also be entered using the numeric keypad
and the shortcuts <+>, <->, <*> and </>.
3.
Enter the next operand.
4.
Enter more operators and operands, if applicable.
After another operator has been entered, the interim result is shown in the
display.
5.
Click on the result key ("="). You can also use the <Return> key , the
<Enter> key or the shortcut <=>.

is shown as xEy, e.g. 4.56E-07).
