9.5.7

Conversion of cylinder positions, angle of rotation

It is important to set parameter P280 correctly in order to ensure proper functioning of the skew
damping system. Determine the angle of rotation resulting from the cylinder positions and the
transformation factor P280: Angle of rotation in cgr = s_act_S * P280
The following procedure is recommended:
Calculation of the transformation factor P280
1. Move the hydraulic system to its zero positions in such a way that
– the spreader is not rotated and
– the container is aligned horizontally with the ground, i.e. the trim, list and skew
2. If no more skew oscillation is present:
– Save the zero position at this position using the "save_zero" command.
– Note the current camera angle (psi_cam) as cam1 [cgr].
– Note the skew component of the current cylinder positions, s_act_S as skew1 [mm].
3. Rotation of the spreader with skew jogging.
When the skew oscillation has settled:
– Make a note of:

P280 = (cam2 - cam1) : (skew2 - skew1)
5. Repeat steps 1 to 4 at the same hoisting height, but with other angles of rotation for the
purpose of verification. Every test should produce approximately the same value for P280.

Calculating the effective pendulum length for the skew oscillation

Inclusion of spreader lengths
A total of four spreader lengths (20 ft, 30 ft, 40 ft and 45 ft) can be selected via the two control
bits spreader_bit0 and spreader_bit1.
The following table shows the assignments between control bits and spreader lengths:

We recommend taking an average from the trace of value psi_cam, since spreaders
always exhibit slight skew oscillation in practice and this is difficult to detect on the
display monitor.
This value is to be found in the CeCOMM Trace in the s_act_TLSh signal. It should also
be approximately zero in the zero position.
