Introduction

The automatic movements of container cranes (STS) are very complicated. Practice shows
that it is difficult to analyze errors after a malfunction has been reported. Even if SIMOCRANE
CeCOMM traces are available, special data about blocked regions, interpolation points, etc.
are often missing, so that precise diagnosis of a malfunction is impossible.
The advanced logger function described below provides a solution to this. The recorded data
are displayed in SIMOCRANE CeCOMM and can be saved.
To avoid placing an unnecessary load on the buffer, only state changes are recorded.

Data retention and storage

The data are stored on the SIMOTION D4x5-2 DP/PN in a circular buffer with a capacity of up
to 10 000 events. When the maximum capacity is reached, storage starts from the beginning
and the oldest entries are overwritten.
The data are stored in the main memory (RAM) in compressed form (27 bytes per event). The
data can be viewed online and can be saved to the memory card if required.
There are two options for saving logger data:
● Saving via the crane control system with the SAVE LOGGER control bit
The data are stored to the memory card in binary form. Up to 10 logger files can be stored.
The logger files are automatically numbered from "Logger0.bin" to "Logger9.bin" and are
stored in the "SwayControl" directory. After the last logger file "Logger9.bin" has been
created, the next "SAVE LOGGER" signal resets the numbering and "Logger0.bin" is
overwritten. The oldest file is always overwritten once 10 logger files are stored in the
directory.
Saving using the "SAVE LOGGER" bit is intended for use by the crane driver. In the event
of irregularities, the crane driver can save the most recent events with the press of a button.
● Saving from the logger menu, <L-Logger> key of SIMOCRANE CeCOMM
– Use the save command: <S-Save> key.
– You can save the data either as a binary file or as a text file in the "SwayControl" directory:
SC integrated STS, GSU
Operating Instructions, 07/2019, A5E48271265B AA
SIMOCRANE CeCOMM commissioning and diagnostic program
Binary file
The binary file is saved as "Logger.bin". Every time you save the data, the "Logger.bin"
file is overwritten. Only one binary file can be saved via CeCOMM.
Text file
The text file is saved as "Logger.txt". Every time you save the data, the "Logger.txt" file
is overwritten. Only one text file can be saved via CeCOMM.
