Disassembling the cylinder block

1. Remove the exhaust cover bolts in the
sequence shown, and then remove the
exhaust cover 1.

2. Remove the thermostat cover, thermo-
stat, and gasket.
3. Remove the relief valve 2.

4. Remove the crankcase bolts in the
sequence shown.

5. Remove the crankcase 3.

NOTE:
Insert a flat-head screwdriver between the
tabs 4 of the crankcase and the cylinder
block to separate them.
6. Remove the connecting rod caps 5, and
then remove the connecting rod and pis-
ton assemblies.
7. Remove the crankshaft, main bearings
and oil seals.
NOTE:
Be sure to keep the main bearings in the
order as they were removed.
8. Remove the piston pin clips 6 and pis-
ton pin 7, and then remove the piston
