Removing the tiller handle

1. Disconnect the engine shut-off switch
leads, engine start button leads (E
model), and PT switch leads (PT model).
2. Remove the manual starter. (M model)
Remove the PT relay, PT relay bracket
(PT model), starter relay, and starter
relay bracket. (E model)
NOTE:
To remove the parts, see "Electrical compo-
nent and wiring harness routing" (8-1).
3. Remove the nut 1 and disconnect the
shift cable 2.

4. Disconnect the throttle cables 3 from the
throttle cam 4.

5. Remove the tiller handle.
NOTE:
See the exploded diagram for disassembly
(7-6).

Installing the tiller handle

1. Assemble the tiller handle.

2. Install the shift lever cam 1 and cam
springs 2.

3. Install the throttle friction adjuster 3, and
then install the cotter pin 4.
