6. Measure the thermostat valve opening a
at the specified water temperatures.
Replace the thermostat if out of specifi-
cation.
Water

58–62 °C
(136–144 °F)

70 °C (158 °F)
7. Install a new gasket, the thermostat, and
the thermostat cover, and then tighten
the thermostat cover bolts to the speci-
fied torque.
Thermostat cover bolt:
8 N·m (0.8 kgf·m, 5.9 ft·lb)

Checking the cooling water passage

1. Check the cooling water inlet covers 1
and cooling water inlets. Clean if
clogged.

2. Place the lower unit in water, and then
start the engine.

3. Check for water flow at the cooling water
pilot hole. If there is no water flow, check
the cooling water passages inside the
outboard motor.

Control system

Adjusting the throttle cable (H
model)
1. Disconnect the throttle link rod 1 from
the free accel lever.
2. Loosen the locknuts 2 and 3, and then
turn the adjusting nuts 4 and 5 to
loosen the throttle cables 6 and 7.

3. Turn the throttle grip to the fully open
position and hold it in place.
4. Turn the adjusting nut 4 so that the fully
open stopper a on the throttle cam con-
tacts the throttle cable bracket as shown,
and then tighten the locknut 2.
