Grounding
Although operator protection is guaranteed, it is best to establish an additional ground for EMC reasons. A
grounding screw is provided below the DC IN connector on the rear of the frame.
1.
Using a M4x8 screw, fasten the grounding cable to the CASE bolt.
2.
If installing POWER CORE with a control surface, then establish a direct connection to the control
surface modules using the
WARNING: POWER CORE must be on the same potential as all other system devices.
For Scandinavian countries, ALWAYS use a grounded mains connection, to prevent the device from being
grounded through Ethernet or other signal connections.
Grounding of Audio Interfaces
For compliance with AES3, digital interfaces should be connected to a field ground.
For microphones, the ground from POWER CORE should connect directly to the microphone via the cable
shielding, otherwise phantom power cannot be transferred. Take care that the shielding does not connect to the
field ground, to prevent interference and loss of signal quality.
5.7.3
CAN Bus
If POWER CORE is installed with a control surface, then the CAN bus is used to connect the control surface
frames. If there are no control surface components, then this connector is unused.
All control surface components should be connected to the CAN bus in a daisy-chain fashion, starting from the
POWER CORE. For specific instructions, please refer to your control surface manual.
Connections must be made using a standard (straight 1:1) network cable: STP-CAT 5 cable with RJ45 connectors
on both ends. Note that all connections MUST be point-to-point; a switch or hub is not allowed. The control
surface can be hot-plugged via CAN, and so the cabling can be connected while the frames are powered.
The CAN bus uses only one of four available pairs of wires in the CAT-5 cable. See the
5.7.4
RS-422
The RS-422 serial port can connect remote devices which do not support TCP/IP Ethernet.
For example, to allow a legacy Radio Automation System or DAW running the Mackie HUI protocol to remotely
control POWER CORE (via a Serial-to-MIDI connection).
The remote device must connect to the RS 422 port using a RS-422 9-pin D-type cable with RJ45 connector. See
the
