The Backplane
Note
On the rear of the backplane, to the left of connector 21, there is a triple-sized
I
gap. This is where the DC/DC converter is located. No function cards can be
installed in this slot.
Function Card Connections
There are three types of card, as far as connection is concerned, that may be connected to the
backplane. They are:
Type 1
Master cards. These cards are connected to both the MPB and the local bus.
Type
2
System Interfaces These are master cards that are connected to the MPB but
have no connection to the local bus.
Type 3
Local cards. As the name suggests, these cards are only connected to the local
bus.
In addition, cards of any type may be interfaces connecting to equipment outside the HP
Component Central Monitor.
