Preparing Cable for Termination.
Note
If using factory crimped contacts, skip to "Terminating Contacts to Connectors
and Faceplates" below.
1. Slip 9.5 cm (3 314 ") shrink tubing 0890-0273 over end of cable. It will be used later to cover
outer shield and jacket.

3. Twist and fold back outer shield.
4. Remove filler strips, if present.
5. Solder a wire lead to shield. Use wire from excess cable or another 26 AWG lead.
6. Strip leads 2 mm (5164 ") and twist conductor strands tightly.
7. Using
one
of the Amp crimping tools (90312-l from Amp-USA, or 169341-1 from
Amp-Europe), crimp 2 cm (3/4 ") jumper wire to white lead. (See diagram.) Crimp
contacts to remaining leads. Use slot 28-26
on
the Amp-USA tool or appropriate slot
on the
Amp-Europe tool. Crimped
contacts
should overlap insulation. Refer to Amp documentation
in the appendix at the end of this chapter for crimping instructions.
8. Use shrink tubing from step one to cover outer shield.
Terminating
Contacts to Connectors and Faceplates.
1. If you are using factory crimped contacts, remove the heatshrink tubing protecting the pins,
and use another piece of shrink tubing 0890-0273 to cover only the shield so that the leads
are exposed.
2. Visually inspect pins for loose or defective crimp contacts.
3. Cut and re-terminate any defective crimp
contacts.
4. Assemble connector to faceplate using hardware kit 1252-1085 which is included with
the
cable assembly. (See "Faceplate Assemblies" in next section for illustration and instructions.)
