Troubleshooting
the System
Introduction
Understanding
the Service
Strategy
The recommended method of repair for the HP Component Central Monitor is board, assembly,
or module exchange. Because most of the instrument's components employ surface-mount
technology, component-level troubleshooting and repair is not recommended.
Error codes, when available, are the most effective means of troubleshooting an HP Component
Central Monitor problem. If an error code is present in the Status Log, or in a start-up
error
message
at the top of the display screen, then refer to the Status Log and Error Code
information to identify the fault. If no error codes are displayed, or if the code displayed is
not listed, then the tabular information on General System troubleshooting should be used to
identify the fault. Tables are also provided for identifying faults in the display, power supply,
and recorder module.
All the facilities available during the system "Service" mode provide additional help in
troubleshooting and are listed and described in this chapter. Details on the Network Test
are provided: if the HP Component Central Monitor is connected to a Network, the test will
provide information about the SDN devices on the Network.

'lkbles
Look down the first column for the Symptom of the fault. When the fault symptom is found,
read across to the center column for the Possible Causes of the fault (there may be several
possible causes for a particular symptom). Each Possible Cause has a Corrective Action listed in
the right column of the Table.
If the Corrective Action or check is inconclusive or the fault still persists after a Corrective
Action is performed, then move down the Possible Cause column and perform the next
Corrective Action. Continue to move down the column until either the fault is cleared or the
Corrective Actions have been exhausted. After each Corrective Action has been performed
re-check the fault to see if it has been cleared.
