Preparing and Terminating
Cables
Caution
Inner coaxial shield must be isolated from outer shield.
10. Using one of the Amp crimping tools (90312-l from Amp-USA, or 169341-1 from
Amp-Europe), crimp
contacts to
leads. Use slot 28- 24 on the Amp-USA tool or slot 0,08-0,2
on the Amp-Europe tool. Do NOT crimp
contact to
dielectric Refer to Amp documentation
in the appendix at the end of this chapter for crimping instructions.
11.. Use shrink tubing from step one to cover outer shield.
Terminating Contacts to Connectors and FWeplates.
1. If you are using factory crimped contacts, remove the heatshrink tubing protecting the pins,
and use another piece of shrink tubing 0890-0273 to cover only the shield so that the leads
are exposed.
2. Visually inspect pins for
loose
or defective crimp contacts.
3. Cut and re-terminate any defective crimps.
4. Assemble connector to faceplate using hardware kit 1252-1085 which is included with the
cable assembly. (See "Faceplate Assemblies" in next section for illustration and instructions.)
5. Using the Amp insertion tool included with tool kit, insert the contacts into the connector
housing. (See connection diagram below). If using the Amp 91285-1 insertion tool, use the
yellow tip for insertion and the red tip for extraction.
Note
If terminating cables supplied with molded connectors at both ends, the
connections for pins 3,4 and 5 are as follows: pin 3 - red, pin 4 - green, pin
5 - blue/yellow, pin 6 - orange. Verify connections with Ohm meter before
terminating. Refer to diagram below and Table 5-3 for all lead and pin details.
6. Solder outer shield leads to the middle of the connector shell on
the
rear side of the
connector or solder lead to tab, if present.
7. Assemble faceplate to wallbox using screws included with faceplate.
