Gear engagement time test
This test is for checking the condition of clutches C2 and C3 and the brake B2, and is conducted by
measuring the time taken to engage first gear or reverse gear.
To obtain a reliable result, carry out several measurements and take the average value. Allow one
minute to pass between two consecutive measurements.
To measure the gear engagement time, proceed as follows:
- apply the handbrake fully;
- start the engine, warm it up to temperature and check that the idle speed is correct;
- move the selector lever from position N to D;
- using a chronometer, measure the time elapsing between the movement of the selector lever and per­
ception of engagement of 1st gear.
IM-D engagement time: less than 0.7 s
Repeat the sequence of operations, except moving the selector lever from position N to R.
N-R engagement time: less than 1.2 s
