The IVM should always be optimally positioned where it can monitor a majority of the telephone traffic.
Active tests can be performed only between switches that are configured to be managed by an IVM
appliance. When the Discovery process is unsuccessful, only schedule-triggered Active Tests can be
performed between these switches.
A work-around solution for a switch that does not support mirroring is to add a 4-port dumb HUB
without switching that connects the IAD trunk, the IVM ports, and the upstream port to the router or the
switch. HUBs should not be used to connect more than one VoIP device. When other devices are
included voice degradation results.
