Adjusting the Drum Surface Potential Sensor – Procedure 2
Only use this procedure if you have not yet obtained a high–voltage power
supply, engine checker, and dummy drum. When you obtain these tools, you must
then perform Procedure #1.
Equipment needed:
Zero Adjust:
1. Remove both rear covers from the printer. (Refer to page 10–6 in Chapter 10,
"Replacement Procedures.")
2. Connect the black probe of the volt meter to TP14 DG (Digital Ground) on the
I/O board.
3. Connect the red probe to TP12 on the I/O board.
4. Power the printer ON.
5. Adjust the potentiometer VR4 to read 0 volts on the voltmeter.
6. Power the printer OFF.
7. Set the rotary switch on the MPU board to the "E" position.
8. Power the printer ON.
9. Adjust VR8 until the average reading of the voltmeter is 2.88 volts. This
adjustment is critical. If not adjusted correctly, it can cause one of the following
symptoms:
NOTE: If necessary, repeat steps 5 through 8 until the average voltage is 2.88V.
10. Replace the rear cover.
11. Recall that Procedure #2 is a temporary measure to be used only if you do not
have the necessary tools yet or if the printer is down. When you obtain the
correct tools, you must then perform Procedure #1.

9" Phillips screw driver (small head)
Gray background on paper
Higher usage of toner
Faded print due to a lack of toner
