2A – Toner Empty
The toner empty sensor signal indicates the empty condition. Specifically, the
collector output of Q22 on the I/O board becomes 0V.
NOTE: On Q22 of the I/O board, the collector is the center pin of the transistor.
1. Ensure that there is enough toner in the developing unit. When toner level drops
below what is sufficient in the developing unit, an oscillation sound is emitted
from the toner empty sensor.
If necessary, replace the toner cartridge.
2. Check the I/O board.
a. Put the positive lead of the digital multimeter on collector Q22 on the I/O
b. Measure the voltage when the Toner Empty error occurs. If it is not about 0V,
3. Check the toner empty sensor circuit.
a. Remove CN26 on the I/O board.
b. Put the positive lead of the digital multimeter on collector Q22 on the I/O
c. Measure the voltage, which should be about 5V when the power is ON.
d. Short circuit pin 7 of CN26 and pin 19 of IC31.
e. Measure the voltage, which should be about 0V.
If voltage is not normal, replace the I/O board (the toner empty sensor circuit is
defective).
