Adjusting the Drum Surface Potential Sensor
Use the following procedures when replacing the I/O board or the drum surface
potential sensor (high voltage sensor). Procedure #1 requires certain equipment and
results in a more accurate adjustment. Only use Procedure #2 as a temporary measure
if you do not have the necessary tools yet or if the printer is down. When you obtain
the correct tools, you must then perform Procedure #1.
NOTE: During this adjustment, the top cover must be on the printer. Otherwise, a

Equipment needed:
1. Power the printer OFF, and open the front cover.
2. Remove the developing unit and photoreceptor drum. (Refer to page 3–32 in
Chapter 3, "Consumables," for the removal procedure. Begin with Step 4. End
with Step 16.)
3. Remove the drum cleaning unit. (Refer to page 10–24 in Chapter 10,
"Replacement Procedures," for an illustration.)
4. Slide the dummy drum onto the drum shaft. Position the dummy drum so that the
small bar on the drum is located under the surface potential sensor. The small bar
is used for the following gap adjustment of the sensor to the drum:
a. Loosen the two screws holding the sensor in place. (The screws are located
