Adjusting The Drum Surface Potential Sensor

Equipment needed:
1. Turn off the printer power.
2. Remove the developing unit (see the User's Manual) .
3. Remove the photoreceptor drum. (Refer to page I–253 for the removal
4. Remove the drum cleaning unit. (For an illustration, see page I–262 in
5. Slide the dummy drum onto the drum shaft.
6. Position the dummy drum so that the small bar on the drum is located
7. Remove the dummy drum.
8. Reinstall the drum cleaning unit.
9. Reinstall the photoreceptor drum and developing unit.
10. Raise the transfer unit.
11. Close the front cover.

Adjusting The Tractors

After removing and replacing tractors, do the following procedure to align the
tractor shaft.
This procedure prevents paper from pulling away from the tractor guides.
Tractor adjustment spaces the splined and support shafts evenly apart and
positions the tractor support shaft perpendicular to the frame. This allows the
tractors to slide across the shaft without binding, and helps the paper to stay
on the tractor pins after page ejects.

under the drum surface potential sensor. The small bar is used for the
following adjustment of the gap between the sensor and the drum:
a. Loosen the two screws holding the sensor in place. (The screws are
located in the area of the printer covered by the upper right corner of
the drum plate, when the drum plate is installed.)
b. Reinstall the drum plate.
c. Lightly press the sensor down until it just touches the small bar on the
dummy drum.
d. While holding the sensor in place, tighten the two screws securing the
sensor.
e. Remove the drum plate.
