Fixing Section

In this section, the toner, which has been transferred onto the paper from the drum in
the transfer section, is heated to a high temperature so that it is fixed on the paper.
The printer employs a non-contact, flash fixing system. This fixing system eliminates
the need for fixing section warm-up and covers a wide range of paper thicknesses and
paper qualities. This system melts the toner using only flash light energy, as opposed
to the thermal roller system which applies mechanical pressure while heating both the
paper and toner.

Preheating

During preheating, the printer warms the toner-applied paper with a halogen lamp
light before exposing the paper to flashing light, which both enhances the flash fixing
effect and permits lowering of the flash lamp light-emitting energy.

Flash Fixing

The printer uses a xenon lamp to provide flash light (light-emitting frequency: 5.4
Hz) on the preheated paper to fix the toner. To ensure print density uniformity, the
light-emitting energy of the xenon lamp is maintained at a relatively low level
(approximately 2 J/cm
5–16
2
), and each page is exposed to multiple, low energy flashes.
