19 – Surface Voltage Too High
1. Check the fuser unit.
a. Remove the fuser unit. Determine if the flash guard on the fuser is bent and
b. Reinstall the fuser unit. With the power OFF, measure the resistance from the

control panel, select the Printer Control menu, Surface Volts option. Ensure that
the surface voltage setting is "580".
3. Check the I/O board.
a. Put the positive lead of the digital multimeter on TP12 (IN+) on the I/O
b. Measure the voltage when Error 19 occurs. Voltage should be about 3.5V.
c. Put the positive lead of the digital multimeter on pin 5 of CN23 on the I/O
d. Measure the voltage when Error 19 occurs. Voltage should be about 0V.
If voltage is not normal, replace the I/O board.
4. Check the high–voltage power unit.
a. Put the positive lead of ammeter (3mA range) on +HV1 terminal of the high–
b. Measure the voltage when Error 19 occurs. Voltage should be about 100 µa.
If voltage is not normal, replace the high–voltage power unit.
5. Check the drum surface potential sensor (DSPS) adjustment. Refer to Chapter 9,
"Board Adjustments," for the adjustment procedure.
