Paper Transport System Monitoring
The paper transport system is monitored by the following sensors. (For the paper size
sensors and cassette paper sensor, refer to "Paper Detection" on page 5–20.)

All the above sensors consist of a light emitter and receptor. The state of the sensor is
determined by whether the receptor detects the light from the emitter. The light is
blocked from the receptor either directly by the paper via the paper near-end sensor,
or indirectly via a rotating claw that is pushed by the movement or presence of paper.
The majority of all paper sensors use the indirect rotating claw type of detection.
NOTE: False sensor readings can occur due to contamination of the emitter or
receptor with toner or paper dust.
