Print Quality Problems

To prevent problems with print quality (such as smears, black vertical lines, or print
position errors), perform cleaning procedures according to the schedules and
information listed in this chapter.
However, if print quality problems do occur, clean the following areas (see Table 4–1
for tool part numbers):
1. Use the provided wire cleaner (felt pen) and brush cleaner (with air-sprayer) to
clean the pre-charger, transfer charger, and main charger. See pages 4–23 and
4–25 for illustrated instructions.

Clean the drum with the drum refresher (only when smears appear on print
samples due to the drum).
Clean the LED array and the Selfoc lens (LED print head) with the Toraysee
cloth.
Clean the fuser cover glass with a razor blade or the cover glass scraper.
Remove each charger in turn from the printer and run the wire cleaner along
the length of the charge wire in each charger. Take care not to break the
wires. When too much toner or paper dust remain, use a vacuum cleaner.
Use the brush cleaner to remove loose toner particles, paper dust, and other
debris from the chargers. Be sure to use the brush cleaner to clean the
sponges located on both ends of the transfer charger.
