Chapter 5 — Cartridge Use
Modify Your Partition Settings If you have a license for multiple partitions,
you can change the library configuration to enable multiple partitions
again. See
Follow these steps in reverse order to use the Bulk Unload operation to
remove multiple cartridges from the library.
Do not use the Bulk Unload option if multiple partitions are enabled in the library
Caution
or you risk corrupting inventory by inadvertently moving cartridges from one
partition to another.
Exporting Cartridges
During normal operations, cartridges are typically moved to the access
port using your backup software and then removed from the library. This
process ensures that the cartridge inventory maintained by the backup
software is accurate. The Spectra T50e library lets you export cartridges
using two methods:
Entry/Exit Modes
There are two Entry/Exit (E/E) modes supported by the Spectra T50e. The
mode selected affects what operations can be performed by the backup
software, and what operations must be performed from the front panel of
the library.

Standard Mode—This is the recommended mode if a library is
configured with only a single partition. This mode is very intuitive; all
imports and exports are physical moves to and from the single E/E port.
Queued Ejects Mode—This mode is appropriate for multi-partition
libraries, and is designed to coordinate access to the E/E slots – so that it
is always clear which partition "owns" the tapes in the E/E slots at a
given time.
