Chapter 5 — Cartridge Use

MPORT AND
During normal operations, cartridges are typically imported into the
library and then moved to a slot or partition using your backup software.
This process ensures that the cartridge inventory maintained by the
backup software is accurate.
Moving cartridges into the library (importing) and out of the library
(exporting) is the primary interaction you will have with the physical
library.
Library Controller Import and export operations must always be
performed through the LC, either using the library touch screen or using a
USB keyboard and mouse connected directly to the LCM (see
Controller on page
Remote Library Controller Import/Export options are not available when
accessing the library's user interface through a remote connection to the
RLC.
Inventory Update The library automatically updates its physical inventory
whenever a cartridge is imported into or exported from a partition.
However, the inventory maintained by the backup software is not
automatically updated when the physical inventory changes.
Software Inventory Refer to your software documentation for information
about updating the inventory maintained by the software.
Partition Management You must have a partition defined prior to
importing cartridges. See

Importing Cartridges

Spectra Logic recommends ONLY using the Bulk Load/Bulk Unload option to

If you have Media Lifecycle Management (MLM) enabled, remove cartridges via the
Access Port, power off the library, and then load cartridges manually, your MLM
database is no longer accurate in the library. Because of this, you should NOT use
the Bulk Load/Unload option during normal library operations.
