Tape Drive Connectivity
Each tape drive supports an independent set of SCSI messages and
commands. Depending on the tape drive(s) installed in your library, the
interface used by the tape drives and library will be one of the following:
Wide, low-voltage differential (LVD) SCSI Each tape drive can be
connected to a separate LVD SCSI bus. Two tape drives can also be daisy-
chained together on a single SCSI bus. See
on page 45
Fibre Channel Each tape drive can be connected to a separate Fibre
Channel SAN or network. Multiple tape drives can be on the same
network. The T50e LTO-4 Fibre Channel tape drives have redundant
connections (dual ports) which allows you to connect two separate FC
cables to each tape drive. Use the redundant cabling with software on the
HBA, on the switch or router to provide port failover, which increases
uptime. If only a single FC port is available, the drive will function
normally, as a single-port drive.

Bar Code Reader

A bar code reader mounted on the library's transporter reads the bar code
labels on magazines and cartridges. The library uses the bar code label
information to maintain an inventory of the media currently stored inside
the library.
Advanced BlueScale
The BlueScale Environment provides control over every aspect of the
library's operation:
User Interface
The library user interface lets you set configuration options, view library
and tape drive information and metrics, manage cartridges, and monitor
library operations. You can access the user interface using the library's
front panel touch screen or through a standard web browser connected to
the remote library controller (RLC) via an Ethernet network.
User Security
Library users are configured for the library in one of three groups, each
representing a level of privileges. To learn more, see
Groups and Security on page
December 2008
for additional information and important restrictions.
Note:
One of the tape drives relays the robotic motion control
commands from the host to the library's transporter
