11. Inspect the condition of the fluid for the following
conditions:
– Excessively dirty with particles in the fluid
– If there are no drivability concerns, replace the
fluid. Refer to "Transaxle Fluid Replacement".
– If drivability concerns are present disassemble
and inspect for a cause.
– Burnt smell
– Inspect for the correct fluid. Refer to "Fluid
Capacity Specifications".
– Inspect for conditions that may of cause
overheating of the transmission fluid. Refer to
"Transmission Overheats".
– If there are no drivability concerns, replace the
fluid. Refer to "Transaxle Fluid Replacement".
– If drivability concerns are present disassemble
and inspect for cause.
– Inspect the transmission oil cooler system for
functioning properly. Refer to "Transmission
Fluid Cooler Flushing and Flow Test".
– Black in color
– Disassemble the transaxle and inspect for
components that may have over heated.
– Inspect the transmission oil cooler system for
functioning properly. Refer to "Transmission
Fluid Cooler Flushing and Flow Test".
– Milky or white tint in color from coolant or water
– Inspect for failure of the transaxle oil cooler.
Refer to "Engine Coolant/Water in
Transmission".
– Inspect for missing or improperly routed vent
hose.
– Inspect for missing fill plug.
12. Install the fluid level indicator.
CAUTION
!
Refer to "Fastener Notice: " in Cautions and
Notices.
13. Install the fluid indicator bolt.
Tightening torque
Tighten the fluid indicator bolt to 10 N⋅m (89 lb
in).
Automatic Transmission:
Line Pressure Check
Special tool
J-21867-50 Transmission Line Pressure Adapter
J 21867 Pressure Gage
1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to "Lifting and
Jacking the Vehicle: ".
2. Remove the left front splash shield. Refer to "Engine
Splash Shield Replacement - Left Side: ".
3. Remove the automatic transmission fluid pressure
test hole plug (66) and O-ring seal (67).
4. Install the J-21867-50 (2) with a sealing washer on
each side of the adapter into the test hole.
5. Install the quick connect fitting of the J-21867-50 on
the hose of J 21867.
6. Connect the J 21867 (1) to the J-21867-50 (2).
7. Fully apply the parking brake.
8. Connect a scan tool for engine RPMs.
9. Start the engine and allow the engine to warm up at
idle.
10. Firmly apply the brake and shift into REVERSE (R).
