Symptoms - Automatic Transmission Shift
Lock Control
NOTE
Review the system operation in order to
familiarize yourself with the system
functions. Refer to "Automatic Transmission
Shift Lock Control Description and
Operation".
Visual/Physical Inspection
• Inspect for aftermarket devices which could affect the
operation of the automatic transmission shift lock
control system. Refer to "Checking Aftermarket
Accessories: " in Wiring Systems.
• Inspect the easily accessible or visible system
components for obvious damage or conditions which
could cause the symptom.
Intermittent
Faulty electrical connections or wiring may be the cause
of intermittent conditions. Refer to "Testing for
Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections: " in
Wiring Systems.
Symptom List
Refer to a symptom diagnostic procedure from the
following list in order to diagnose the symptom:
• "Shift Lever Does Not Move with Brake Pedal

Transmission Adaptive Learn and
Transmission Neutral Learn
Perform the transmission adaptive learn and
transmission neutral learn procedure after any of the
following service procedures:
• Transmission Control Module (TCM) replacement
• TCM calibration change
• Control valve body replacement
• Transaxle overhaul
• Transaxle replacement
Transmission Neutral Learn
1. With the vehicle in park "P" and ignition "OFF" set
the parking brake and block the tires.
2. Turn the ignition switch to the "ACC" position.
3. Release the shift lock and place the transmission
shift lever in the neutral "N" position.
4. Turn the ignition to the "OFF" position.
5. Remove the shift cable from the transaxle range
switch lever. Refer to "Shift Control Cable
Replacement".
