RAP 2.43 Knife Position Sensor

This sensor detects when the knife bar assem-
bly is shifting from one side to another, and pre-
vents a cut from being made unless the knife bar
assembly has moved completely into the proper
position. The sensor is mounted to a bracket on
the knife bar assembly (Figure 2-67). The sen-
sor cable is labelled "KP"
Possible Fault Indicators
"Knife position error" message
is displayed.
Initial Actions
Perform RAP 2.24 Knife Shift Cylinders to vali-
date operation of pneumatics.
Check and repair loose wire 53 at the electrical
panel.
Procedure
1. Switch the main power ON and press the
green start button. Is the knife assembly all
the way up?

N
Perform RAP 2.15 Starter Circuit.
2. Is the knife bar assembly shifted to one side
or the other, such that the knife position sen-
sor is not inline with the sensor actuator
bracket?

N
Go to RAP 2.24 Knife Shift Cylinders.
3. Switch the main power OFF and then ON.
Go to the diagnostic screen (GP 6.2 In-
put/Output Diagnostics). Does the diagnostic
screen show input "Knife Center Position"
off?

Disconnect wire 53. On the diagnostic
screen does input "Knife Center Position"
switch off?
Y
N
Disconnect power and replace the main
PWB (REP 4.23 Main PWB Replace-
ment).
Adjust the sensor (GP 6.5 Proximity Sen-
sors) and replace if faulty (PL 5.6 Main As-
sembly 59000 (6/14)).
4. Short wire 53 to 74. On the diagnostic
screen does input "Knife Center Position"
switch on?

Disconnect power and replace the main
PWB (REP 4.23 Main PWB Replacement).
5. Adjust the sensor (GP 6.5 Proximity Sen-
sors) and replace if faulty (PL 5.6 Main As-
sembly 59000 (6/14)).
