GP 6.5 Proximity Sensors

This procedure describes how to properly adjust
the metal-sensing proximity sensors located in
the CMT-130TC and its accessory equipment.
A metal-sensing proximity sensor is actuated
when a metal object gets close enough to the
sensor to change the magnetic field in front of
the sensing surface. All metal-sensing proximity
sensors in the CMT-130TC must be adjusted to
within 0.030" (0.75 mm) of their actuators.
There are two types of metal-sensing proximity
sensors used in the trimmer and accessories:
rectangular and cylindrical (Figure 6-7).
Procedure
1. Switch the main power OFF.
2. Clean any debris from the actuator and sen-
sor.
3. Inspect the sensor for physical damage.
Replace the sensor if the housing or body is
cracked.
4. Loosen the mounting hardware and un-
mount the sensor. Rectangular proximities
are mounted on adjustable brackets. Cylin-
drical proximities are mounted through holes
and held in place with two nuts.
5. Switch the main power ON and click the "Di-
agnostic" button to bring up the diagnostic
screen. If applicable, click on an accessory
diagnostic button to bring up a specific ac-
cessory's diagnostic screen.
6. Actuate the sensor by placing a metal (steel)
object within 0.030" (0.75 mm) of the sens-
ing surface. If the sensor and main PWB
are working correctly, the LED on the sensor
will change state, and an audible tone will be
emitted from the main PWB. Does the sen-
sor change state when actuated?

N
Perform the RAP associated with the spe-
cific sensor.
7. Mount the sensor such that the actuator
comes within 0.030" (0.75 mm) of the sens-
ing surface during normal operation. It is
best to have the actuator come as close as
possible to the sensor without touching it. It
may be helpful (where possible) to also ad-
just the actuator in order to accomplish
proper spacing.
8. Tighten all mounting hardware.
