RAP 2.31 Face Jog Cylinder

The face jog cylinder is a rotary cylinder used
during the book registration process. It jogs
against the face of the book in order to keep the
spine of the book firmly against the back of the
gripper.
Possible Fault Indicators

The face jog fails to rotate into position.

The gripper transport freezes in the reg-
istration area because the face jog fails
to retract.
Initial Actions
Perform RAP 2.20 Pneumatic Pressure.
Perform GP 6.14 Speed-Control Air Valves.
Perform ADJ 4.22 Face Jog Pressure
Clear all books from the machine.
Check for air leaks and disconnected or pinched
hoses.
Check for loose or damaged wire 96 at the elec-
trical panel.
Check that the cable connector on valve #11 is
connected properly.
Procedure
1. Switch the main air ON and main power ON.
2. Manually activate valve #11 by pressing the
actuator button on the valve (Figure 2-47).
Does the face jog cylinder rotate into posi-
tion?
Y N
Disconnect power and replace valve #11
(PL 5.22 Pneu. Manifold Asm. 59012-1).

3. Electrically activate valve #11 by shorting
wire 96 to 74 at the main PWB. Does the
face jog cylinder rotate into position?
Y N
Disconnect power and replace valve #11
(PL 5.22 Pneu. Manifold Asm. 59012-1).
4. Disconnect power and replace the main
PWB (REP 4.23 Main PWB Replacement).
