RAP 2.34 Registration Assembly Mo-
tor
The registration assembly is located on the table
just past the right-hand conveyor. It is used to
register books in the proper location relative to
the gripper.
Possible Fault Indicators
The registration assembly fails to move
when it should (after pressing green
start button).
"Registration Position Error"
or "Registration Data Error" oc-
curs repeatedly.
Initial Actions
Visually inspect all circuit breaker switches to
see if any are tripped or turned off.
Procedure
1. Switch the main power OFF. Turn the regis-
tration assembly drive motor manually by
turning the drive pulley. Does the registra-
tion plate move freely?

Disconnect power and replace the registra-
tion assembly (PL 5.9 Main Assembly 59000
(9/14)).
2. Switch the main power ON, and press the
green start button to initialize.
3. Check voltage between wires 5 and 22 at
EMI #1 on the electrical panel (Figure 2-54).
Is there 120 VAC?
Y
N
Go to RAP 2.4 Input Power.
4. Check voltage between wires 14 and 16 at
EMI #1 on the electrical panel (Figure 2-54).
Is there 120 VAC?

Disconnect main power and replace the EMI
filter #1 (PL 5.16 Power Panel EE-3503
(1/2))
5. Is there 5 VDC between wires 7 and 8 at the
encoder cable connector?
Y
N
Check for loose or damaged wires 7 and 8.
6. Is there 5 VDC between wires 7 and 8 at the
main PWB?
Y
N
Go to RAP 2.5 DC Power and check the 5
VDC circuit.
7. Does the voltage between wires 8 and 9 and
also wires 8 and 10 at the encoder cable
connector change between 0 and 5 VDC
while the encoder is turned manually?
Y
N
Disconnect power and replace the encoder
(PL 5.15 Registration Asm. 56311-3).
8. Go to the diagnostic screen and enable out-
puts (GP 6.2 Input/Output Diagnostics).
Make sure all doors are closed, then acti-
vate the Interlock Relay output. Press the
green start button to energize the IR relay.
The "Interlock Relay IR" input should switch
on.
9. In the diagnostic screen, have someone
press the "Sideguide Test" button. This will
initiate movement of the registration.
10. Is there nominal motor voltage (65-75 VDC
in fast speed, and 10-20 VDC in slow speed
– actual voltage may vary) between wires 30
and 31 while the registration is moving?

N
Disconnect power and replace the main
PWB (REP 4.23 Main PWB Replacement).

11. Disconnect power and replace the motor (PL
5.15 Registration Asm. 56311-3).
