RAP 2.22 Gripper Clamp Cylinder
Output 27
The gripper clamps the book through the ma-
chine cycle and transports it from station to sta-
tion within the machine. The gripper's home lo-
cation is at the end of the table slot, near the
front of the machine.
Possible Fault Indicators
Gripper clamp will not clamp or un-
clamp.
Initial Actions
Perform RAP 2.20 Pneumatic Pressure.
Perform GP 6.14 Speed-Control Air Valves.
Check that the pressure gauge on valve #2
reads 0.3 MPa. If it does not, readjust pressure
by turning the pressure adjustment screw (Fig-
ure 2-29).
Check for air leaks and disconnected or pinched
hoses.
Check for loose or damaged wire 68 at the elec-
trical panel.
Check that the cable connector on valve #2 is
connected properly.
Procedure
1. Switch the main power OFF.
2. Switch the main air OFF.
3. Attempt to actuate the gripper by hand.
Does the gripper travel freely?
Y
N
Adjust gripper clamp guide screws until grip-

not allowed to twist.
4. Switch the main air ON.
2. Status Indicator RAPs
5. Switch the main power ON.
6. Manually activate valve #2 by pressing the
button on top of the valve. Does the valve
activate?
Y
N
Disconnect power and air, then replace
valve #2 (PL 5.22 Pneu. Manifold Asm.
59012-1).
7. Electrically activate valve #2 by shorting wire
68 to 74. Does the valve activate?
Y
N
Disconnect power and air, then replace
valve #2 (PL 5.22 Pneu. Manifold Asm.
59012-1).
