RAP 2.71 Stacker Pusher Cylinder

Stacker I/O PWB Output 2 and 4
The pusher cylinder is used to push the books
out onto the output table. It has three positions:
Extended, retracted, and a center position used
for when thin books are dropped onto the table.
The center position is achieved using a sensor
on the cylinder and a three way air valve that
locks pressure to both ports of the cylinder when
it shuts off.
Possible Fault Indicators
The pusher cylinder does not push or
retract.
The pusher cylinder does not retract
part way to receive thin books. To fix
this, go to RAP 2.76 Stacker Pusher
Cylinder Sensor.
Initial Actions
Perform RAP 2.20 Pneumatic Pressure.
Check that all cables and air tubing between the
trimmer and Stacker are securely fastened and
are not damaged.
Perform GP 6.14 Speed-Control Air Valves.
Check that all air hoses in the Stacker are con-
nected properly, and are not damaged or
pinched.
Check for loose or damaged wires 76 and 78 at
the Stacker electrical panel.
Check that cables #3 and #5 are connected to
the air valve properly.
Procedure
1. Remove the rear panel and upper side panel
on the Stacker, and locate the pusher cylin-
der. Fully open the flow control valves lo-
cated at the air fittings on the cylinder.

2. Switch the main air ON and main power ON.
3. Manually activate the pusher extend valve
by pressing the actuator button on the valve
(Figure 2-109). Then Manually activate the
pusher retract valve by pressing the actuator
button on it. Does pusher extend and retract
properly?
Y
N
Disconnect main power and replace the
valve (PL 5.66 Stacker Air Manifold 58008).
4. Manually actuate the valve again in either di-
rection, only this time release the actuator
button when the cylinder is partially ex-
tended. Does the cylinder stop in a partially
extended position?
Y
N
Disconnect main power and replace the
valve (PL 5.66 Stacker Air Manifold 58008).
5. Electrically activate the pusher extend valve
by shorting wire 76 to wire 74. Then remove
the short then activate the pusher retract
valve by shorting wire 78 to wire 74. Does
the valve actuate properly in both direc-
tions?
Y
N
Disconnect main power and replace the
valve (PL 5.66 Stacker Air Manifold 58008).
6. Check for loose or damaged cables between
the trimmer and Stacker. Check for proper
hose and wire connections inside the
Stacker. Did this fix the problem?
Y
N
Disconnect power and replace the Stacker
I/O PWB (REP 4.26 Accessory PWB Re-
placement).
7. Readjust the flow control valves so that the
pusher cylinder moves at a moderate speed
(GP 6.14 Speed-Control Air Valves).
