GP 6.7 Diffuse Sensors

Diffuse sensors emit an infrared beam that is re-
flected back to the sensor whenever an object,
such as a book, is within the sensing range of
the sensor.
The minimum sensing distance is approximately
1/4" (6.4 mm), however these sensors work
more consistently when there is at least 1" (25.4
mm) between the object and the sensor.
The maximum sensing distance is adjusted with
a dial on the sensor. A small screwdriver is re-
quired to turn the dial.
Note: Diffuse sensors may not work properly
under bright light. Use normal ambient light
when adjusting sensors. These sensors some-
times have difficulty sensing very dark objects
therefore it may be beneficial to test books with
dark or black covers when adjusting.
Procedure
1. Clean the sensing surface with a dry cloth.
2. Where possible, adjust the position of the
sensor such that the sensing surface is at
least 1" (25.4 mm) away from where the
books will pass.
3. Switch the main power ON and click the "Di-
agnostic" button to bring up the diagnostic
screen. If applicable, click on an accessory
diagnostic button to bring up a specific ac-
cessory's diagnostic screen.
4. Using paper or a book, actuate the sensor at
any point within its sensing area. If the sen-
sor and main PWB are working correctly, the
LED on the sensor will change state, and an
audible tone will be emitted from the main
PWB. Does the sensor change state
properly?
6. General Procedures/Information
Y
N
Perform the RAP associated with the spe-
cific sensor.
5. Adjust the dial on the sensor using a small
screwdriver until the sensor detects a black
sheet or book at the point where the book
will pass, and does not detect objects at a
distance several inches away, in order to
prevent false readings.
The sensor adjustment is complete.
