CYLINDER COMPRESSION
Warm up the engine to normal operating tempera-
tu re.
Stop the engine and remove the direct ignition coils
(page 3-6).
Install the compression gauge with the gauge at-
tachment.
TOOL:
Compression gauge attachment 07RMJ-MY50100
Shift the transmission in neutral.
Open the throttle all the way and crank the engine
with the starter motor until the gauge reading stops
rising. The maximum reading is usually reached
within 4-7 seconds.
COMPRESSION PRESSURE:
1,226 kPa (12.5 kgf/cm
2 ,
178 psi)
Low compression can be caused by:
- blown cylinder head gasket
- improper valve adjustment
-valve leakage
-worn piston ring or cylinder
High compression can be caused by:
-carbon deposits in combustion chamber or on
fJblun head
CYLINDER HEAD COVER REMOVAL
Remove the carburetor (page 5-15).
Disconnect the ignition coil 2P connectors and
remove the direct ignition coils.
Disconnect the air supply hoses and the vacuum
tube to remove the pulse secondary air injection
(PAIR) control valve.
