Using the CLI Commands

Table C3-37. Commands Used in tn3270 Command Mode

Closes the connection to the remote host and returns

you to the CLI prompt. On the Model 5390 server, this

method of ending a connection is equivalent to using

quit (see Ending a tn3270 Session on page C3-89).

open [host [port]]

Opens a connection to host. Specify host as either an

IP address (in dotted-decimal notation) or a host

name. If you use a name, it must be deﬁned in the

Model 5390 host table or available from the

Model 5390 name server. If you do not specify a host,

tn3270 prompts you for it by displaying "to:". If you

do not specify a port, tn3270 connects to the default

Telnet port (23). Note: If your Model 5390 server is

already connected to a host via tn3270, you cannot

use open to make a tn3270 connection to another host.

To do that, enter the CLI attention string (deﬁned via

the CLI stty command), and then invoke tn3270 again

from the CLI.

Closes the connection to the remote host and returns

you to the CLI prompt. On the Model 5390 server,

quit is equivalent to close (see Ending a tn3270

Session on page C3-89).

Displays the status of the current tn3270 connection.

Entering a carriage return (and nothing else) at the

tn3270 prompt resumes the suspended session. (You

suspend a session by entering the escape character.)

Displays information about one or all of the

commands described in this table. If you specify

command, ? displays information about that particular

command. Issued without an argument, ? displays

summaries of all commands.
