2
Establish the Network Control Protocol (NCP) to be used on port 4 .
To specify one or more NCPs for a port, set the port parameter ppp_ncp to ipxcp, or any
combination of ipxcp, ipcp, and atcp, or all. Separate multiple values with a comma.
Specify ipxcp alone if the PC needs to access Novell servers only.
Specify ipxcp, ipcp if you want the PC to be able to access IP nodes (such as the UNIX
host) as well as IPXCP nodes.
The default for ppp_ncp is all, which enables all three NCPs.
3
Set the port type parameter to dial_in if you want to register the user with the who
database as soon as a CLI process attaches to the line.
4
Turn security on for the Model 5390 server by setting the Model 5390 enable_security
parameter to Y.
5
Define 5390_01's UNIX boot host as the host used for security by setting the Model
5390 pref_secure1_host parameter to 132.254.5.10.
6
The slip_ppp_security parameter controls dial-in PPP access. If enable_security and
slip_ppp_security are set to Y, access to the ppp command is controlled via ACP and
port access is logged in the acp_logfile.
7
Set the port parameter ppp_security_protocol to pap, or pap, chap, or none.
8
To enable CLI and/or connection security, set the port security parameters: cli_security,
connect_security, and port_password.
9
Set the port parameter allow_compression to Y if you want the Model 5390 server to
accept and transmit compressed packets.
For IPXCP links, the Model 5390 server uses CIPX header compression.
10
Use the supplied defaults for the port parameters data_bits (8), stop_bits (1), and parity
(none).
11
Set the type_of_modem parameter to the type of modem attached to the port.
893-741-B
NOTE: PPP is an 8-bit protocol. If data_bits is set to 7, and parity is
not set to none, the Model 5390 server forces the data_bits setting to 8
and the parity setting to none. If this is not possible because data_bits
is set to 7 and parity is set to none, the Model 5390 server syslogs an
error message for the port.
