Internet Protocol (IP) Routing
All SLIP, PPP, and Ethernet interfaces must have proper subnet masks (see Subnetting Using
Subnet Masks on page A12-13).
To enable active RIP:
1
Obtain a valid RIP value for the Model 5390 option_key parameter.
Each Model 5390 server requires a unique value. The way to obtain a key depends on the
configuration and type of Model 5390 server you purchased. Some option key values are
physically attached to the Model 5390 server. Check there, and enter that value as described
in Step 2.
If there is no option key value attached to your Model 5390 server, contact your supplier to
obtain a key. The Ethernet address of your Model 5390 server is located on a label that is taped
to the unit.
The option_key parameter enables a variety of Model 5390 features, including tn3270,
AppleTalk, and IPX, depending on what you specified when you ordered your Model 5390
server.
The RIP option_key also enables dial-out and filtering. To determine which options are enabled,
issue the CLI stats –o command:
annex: stats –o
KEYED OPTIONS:

NOTE: The MODULES DISABLED display indicates the current set-
ting of the disabled_modules parameter. If dial-out appears here as
disabled, you cannot use dial-out, RIP, or filtering, even if they are
keyed on (see disabled_modules on page C2-21). Although LAT is an
option, you set it using the Model 5390 lat_key parameter, not
option_key (see lat_key on page C2-31).

Atalk: keyed off
tn3270: keyed on
