Configuring ipx-mode Ports and Modems
To configure ports 4 and 11 in Figure A9-4 as ipx ports:
1
Set the mode to ipx for these ports:
annex: su
Password:
annex#: admin
Annex administration Remote Annex R10.1, 24 ports
annex# port 4,11
admin: set port mode ipx
2
To register users with the who database when they dial into the ports, set the type
parameter to dial_in for each port.
3
Use the defaults for the data_bits (8), stop_bits (1), and parity (none) parameters.
4
Set the speed parameter to the highest rate supported by the modem attached to each
port. Do not set speed to autobaud.
5
Set EIA/hardware flow control (RTS/CTS) by setting the control_lines parameter to both,
and setting the input_flow_control and output_flow_control parameters to eia.
The Model 5390 server asserts RTS when it is ready to receive data and checks the CTS input
before transmitting data.
6
For each port, set the type_of_modem parameter to the type of modem attached to the
port.
If you do not know the name of your modem type, do as follows:
Set type_of_modem to an arbitrary value.
Issue the reset annex modem command.
Issue the Model 5390 superuser modem -l command. This displays a list of Model 5390
modem types, from which you can pick the one that matches your modem.
Set type_of_modem to the modem type you selected from the list.
7
To configure security for the port, see Security for ipx, auto_detect, and auto_adapt
Ports on page A15-31.

NOTE: You do not need to set type of modem for Model 5390 servers
that have internal modems.
