In reality, it is not likely that you would be required to type a three-character escape sequence,
because most of these sequences are mapped to special keys such as those on the numeric keypad.
For example, on a VT220 terminal that has Keypad mode set to Application, you can send the
sequence \EOM by pressing the Enter key.
If map3270 does not contain an entry for the ASCII terminal you are using, or if there is no map3270
file, tn3270 uses the defaults shown in Table C3-36. This table:

Uses CRTL- and ESC instead of ^ and \E.
Does not enclose key sequences in single quotes.
