RESIDUE HANDLING Straw chopper - Dynamic description (K.64.C

The CX combine model line is equipped with a straw chopper unit located at the rear of the combine. The straw
chopper is driven through a series of sheaves and belts, by the engine gearbox. The sheaves are configured to offer
two different rotor speeds, depending upon the belt installation position on the sheaves. The straw chopper consists
of a main rotor containing a series of knives, which rotate as the rotor spins, chopping the straw delivered by the straw
walker system, between the rotor knives and a series of fixed counter knives. As the straw is chopped into small
debris, it is discharged through the rear of the combine. The debris is discharged through an adjustable swath path
deflector plate, located at the rear of the straw chopper. The counter knives are adjustable according to the type and
size of the grain being harvested. The straw chopper system also includes a chop/drop baffle plate to select the path
of the straw as it falls from the straw walkers. The straw can be directed into the straw chopper, or bypassed and
discharged through the windrow shield, without being processed by the straw chopper, depending on the position of
the chop/drop baffle plate.
