1. Install bearing (1) on the shafts.
2. Install spacer (2) and bearing (3) on the shaft.
Install the shims and circlip (4).
3. In order to set the two bearings (1) and (3), hit the
shaft on both parts, and rotate the bearings two full
revolutions to seat the bearing rollers.
Check the preload on the bearings with a torque me-
ter. This preload (individually) should cause a rolling
torque of 0.4 - 0.8 N·m. (4 - 7 in. lbs.)
Set the shimming in case the preload is not between
the tolerance range shown.
Apply a bluing compound to the gear teeth of both
shafts.
