POTS

The EPON ONT supports the voice inter-working function from the analog POTS
lines to VoIP/Ethernet. See section 18.6 in chapter 18, EPON ONT, for the supported
POTS features.
The ONT is based on a business chipset and a switch that provides layer 2 switching
with filtering functions. In the upstream direction, the ONT assigns traffic to the
LLID. In the downstream direction, the ONT performs layer 2 bridging.
The POTS analog interfaces are part of the ONT on the subscriber side.
The VoIP signaling and bearer channels are terminated on the ONT on the OLT
side.
The following modes of operation for VoIP services are supported on the EPON
ONT:
SIP
H.248 softswitch (Megaco)
In the case of the EPON ONT, the CT defines ways to configure VoIP services that
support signaling protocols, such as H.248 softswitch and SIP.
SIP
SIP protocol complies with the IETF RFC 3261 and China Telecom SIP network
gateway control protocol specification.
SIP service configuration
The VoIP framework consisting of signaling protocols like SIP does not specify any
standard manner or mechanism for implementing a configuration interface.
In the case of the EPON ONT, the CT defines ways to configure VoIP services that
support signaling protocols, such as H.248 softswitch and SIP.
RSSI specifications
Received signal strength indication (RSSI) is a measurement of radio signal strength
at the receiver. Use of the RSSI metric is governed by the IEEE 802.11 standard,
which does not define any relationship between RSSI value and power level in mW
or dBm. RSSI measurements are specified without units and range in value from 0
to 255 with the highest value being referred to as RSSI Max. Defining RSSI values
or power levels is the responsibility of the vendor.
According to the Alcatel-Lucent implementation of RSSI for ONTs, the RSSI value
is expressed in power levels of dBm and is the measurement of the received optical
signal level at 1490 nm in dBm. The RSSI range is -65.536 to +65.534. The absolute
accuracy of the optical signal reading is +/-3.0 dB. Take this possible variation in
measured signals into account when reading the metric values.
A RSSI value of zero occurs when the ONT is not connected to the PON or there is
a loss of connectivity with the PON. In the latter case, the problem may be either with
the ONT or PON.
