TROUBLESHOOTING
SPEED SENSOR/SPEEDOMETER (NC700X/XA/S/SA)
The speedometer operation is abnormal
1. Fuse Inspection
Check for blown main fuse or sub fuse.
Is the fuse blown?
YES
NO
2. Battery Inspection
Make sure the battery is fully charged and in good condition.
Is the battery in good condition?
YES
NO
3. VS Sensor Power Input Voltage Inspection
Disconnect the VS sensor 3P (Black) connector.
Measure the voltage at the VS sensor 3P (Black) connector terminals with the ignition switch turned ON.
CONNECTION: Pink/blue (+) – Green/red (–)
STANDARD:
Is there Battery Voltage?
YES
NO
4. VS Sensor Signal Line Inspection
With the ignition switch OFF, check for continuity between the VS sensor 3P (Black) connector and
combination meter 16P (Gray) connector.
CONNECTION: Pink/green – Pink/green
Is there continuity?
YES
NO
5. VS Sensor Signal Inspection
Connect the VS sensor 3P (Black) connector.
Support the motorcycle using a hoist or other support to raise the rear wheel off the ground.
Measure the output voltage (sensor signal) at the speedometer with the ignition switch turned ON while
slowly turning the rear wheel by your hand.
CONNECTION: Pink/green (+) – Green/red (–)
STANDARD:
Is the voltage within specified value?
YES
NO

– Replace the fuse.
– GO TO STEP 2.
– GO TO STEP 3.
– Charge or replace the battery (page 21-6).
Battery voltage
– GO TO STEP 4.
– • Loose or poor contact of related terminals
• Open circuit in Pink/blue wire
• Open circuit in Green/red wire
– GO TO STEP 5.
– Open circuit in Pink/green wire
Repeat 0 to 5 V
– Faulty combination meter
– Faulty VS sensor
